Signals tracked for Perpetuo

The public records we read for Perpetuo, ordered by how close each sits to an owner deciding what happens to the company next. Every account on the Accounts tab came out of one of these classes.

How we rank a record

Two questions decide a record's value for a buyer who keeps management in place: is the business owner-led and inside the box, and is the owner deciding something now about who runs it or how it is funded. A founder handing day-to-day leadership to a successor while still owning the company is close to that decision. A growth announcement alone is not.

One record is a lead. Two independent records at the same company, such as a state grant plus a long-tenured owner with the next generation in management, are a reason to write to the owner before a banker does.

Closest to the ownership decision

The handoff year

Records where the owner changes who runs the business while the family still owns it.

Outside president or a son or daughter named while the founder stays

A dated release naming a new president, with the founder moving to chairman. Management is being set up to run without the founder.

From this screenTop Notch Distributors: outside president named October 27, 2025, with the CEO retiring in late 2026 and the founders chairing the board.

Founder hands leadership to a son or daughter

The company's own page or a release says the next generation now leads. The question of who owns it next follows.

From this screenPremier Brands of America: the founder has passed leadership to his son while the company builds its first Pennsylvania plant.

Co-owner retires or dies

In a two- or three-partner company, the remaining owner suddenly holds the whole business and its estate questions.

Owner committing new capital

One to four quarters

State and local records that date a new plant or a move into a new county. Only as strong as the ownership picture beside it.

State incentive grants and loans for a plant in a new county or state

Governors' offices and state finance boards publish the company, the site, the jobs and the money, with claw-backs attached.

From this screenAnnandale Millwork & Allied Systems: a Governor's forestry grant in January 2026 and a state rail spur grant in April 2026 for its new Newport News plant.

Pension plan terminated or frozen

A final Form 5500 for a defined-benefit plan shows the balance sheet being cleaned up. It says nothing about why.

Confirming only

Never lead with these

A business line sold with no banker named

It can be cleanup before a sale or a shrink below the size box. Read it beside the ownership record, never alone.

From this screenThe Penrod Company: sold its hardware division in September 2026, leaving a business outside the box.

Trade press and hiring

They confirm the company is investing and who leads it. They do not open a window on their own.

What each account arrives with

  • The dated record behind it, linked at the source
  • The owner or founder by name, from the record
  • A first line to the owner and the correction, so no letter claims more than the record shows

Size and margin are estimated from headcount and footprint and marked as estimates.

Signal classes describe categories of public record. Per-account claims live on the Accounts tab with their sources.
